Family day is all about your family. Eating together, laughing, and being grateful for the people (and animals) you hold dear. For many families, the cat is simply part of that, even if it may not notice much of the festivities itself. Still, it is a nice opportunity to let it enjoy in a small, loving way as well.

Not with bells and whistles, but simply: a little extra attention. In the background, relaxed and curious, just like cats are. Here are some nice ideas for family day that let you involve your cat at its own pace and in its own way in the gathering. Because of course, our cat is also just part of the family ;)

Treat your cat to a tasty treat

Did you know that you can also make tasty cat treats yourself? You really don't need expensive treats, just a little time, creativity, and safe ingredients. Also fun: let the kids help make a few simple DIY ice pops
for the cat. Cozy, and easy!

Fun ideas:

  • Milk popsicle: only cat milk, frozen in a mold
  • Tuna popsicles: a bit of tuna, some water, and a pinch of catnip
  • Pumpkin popsicles: puree some pumpkin with a splash of cat milk or water

Note: keep the portions small and use only ingredients that are safe for cats. So: no regular milk, no additives. Also, let the ice cream come to temperature before giving it to your cat, a frozen tongue is no fun for anyone.

Let the children craft a toy together

Not for playing for hours, cats decide themselves when it's time for action, but just: make something fun that the cat can discover later. For example, let your children craft a simple toy from felt, a piece of string, or an empty toilet paper roll.

Mini-DIY:

Cut a toilet paper roll into wide rings and slide them together into a lightweight ball. You can
optionally put some catnip with rolled-up string inside for extra
attraction. Simple, fun, and nice and cheap to make!

This way your cat has something new to be curious about, in its own relaxed
moment.

My children love making toys for our cat, and I let them run wild with their imagination. It also costs me nothing, and I don't have to buy new toys for the cat often.

A cozy corner, especially for your cat

Too many stimuli? Give your cat a nice place where he can retreat for a while.
Consider:

  • A soft, stylish cushion or cat bed that matches your interior
  • A design cat house or even a hidden litter box that blends beautifully into the living room.
  • Or just a box with a blanket, cats can never get enough of that!
A little extra love for your cat, without too much hassle or cost

With a little attention and creativity, you involve him on his own terms in the togetherness.

No pressure, no hassle. Just: love, peace, and a little extra.
