Catfluencer?

In 2022, catfluencer is a concept. Everyone has probably heard of an influencer, a person who has many followers on social media and is therefore even a well-known person. This influencer acts as a role model for a certain target group and may also influence the choices of his or her followers.

How it all began

Cola actually came as a playmate for Marit's other cat, named Monster. Unfortunately, they didn't become the best of friends, but with 2 dogs at home, everything gets along just fine. Marit always enjoyed taking photos, and when she saw a cat on Instagram that looked like her Cola, she thought "maybe other people will like Cola too." So Marit decided to create an Instagram account for Cola in 2016. Not knowing she would get so many followers, now over 128,000! Cola naturally has the looks of a true Instagram model, with his beautiful dark brown coat and cool appearance. But that wasn't why Marit chose Cola; she also had no preference for a particular breed and after seeing several litters, she especially felt an immediate connection with Cola!

Growing account

Many followers of Cola also feel that click. The photos and videos of Cola receive a lot of reactions and the photos get many likes. This way, Cola's account becomes increasingly well-known, and the number of followers keeps growing.

Marit noticed an enormous growth a few years ago when a photo of Cola was posted by “Cats of Instagram,” resulting in thousands of new followers within a few hours! That was with the photo below, and when you see this photo, you want to follow Cola too, don't you?

For Marit, it is an enjoyable activity; she does not spend a lot of time on it daily and mainly does it for fun. But it certainly has beneficial side effects. Thanks to Cola's account, Marit has nice contact with people she has met through social media. "Besides, it's fun to earn a little extra now and then and get nice things for the cats," she mentions. She also hopes to continue doing this for a long time and to keep providing her followers with enjoyable content.

Do's & Don'ts

The best DO when you want to create an account for your cat, according to Marit, is: Enjoy your cat! If you like taking photos and your cat enjoys being photographed, then that is the most important thing.

Cola really enjoys being photographed because that means attention and treats! He also has many different facial expressions, which Marit knows how to capture beautifully. As if he is really posing for it. Marit uses a Canon camera for this, or sometimes just her phone. As long as the photo is clear and of good quality. Then she edits the photo with the Lightroom app, making a small adjustment like editing the light or shadow so the photo stands out just a little more.
 

According to Marit, you don't necessarily have to show something unique. "Cola is just an ordinary cat who actually doesn't do anything weird or special," she says. However, she advises being active online daily; this way, you also maintain the number of followers. When you devote enough attention to it, the number of followers will naturally grow. But above all, it should remain fun and not revolve around the number of followers. An absolute DON'T that Marit mentions is that you should not start the account with the intention of becoming a catfluencer.
