In love with the breed

Although Julia and her boyfriend thought they were true dog people, they decided due to their lifestyle and maintenance that it was more suitable for them to get cats at this time. And, they are surprised and amazed at how much they have already learned from their two cats Woodie and Leo. Both are Neva Masquerade pedigree cats, the point variant of the Siberian cat which has been fully recognized as an official breed since 2009. The Neva Masquerade has a light coat with darker colored spots on the face and paws. In appearance, they closely resemble the Siberian cat; long hair, a bushy tail, and a muscular body. They also strongly resemble them in personality; they are intelligent, lively, curious, cheerful, and affectionate. An ideal companion animal and Julia can only confirm this: "We feel the bond and love between us grow every day. What touches me the most is that they really show their love to us," she says.

Besties

Woodie and Leo come from different catteries, they are both one year old and their characters are golden. Although the playing was quite rough at the beginning, they have now become best friends. Woodie was the first to be at Julia's home, and when they went to pick him up, he was not shy at all compared to his brothers and sisters. They were much calmer, which made Julia find Woodie even more fantastic. Leo came a few weeks later, he was so small and cute. Still a bit shy, but also very playful! So when they met, they immediately started playing a lot. On the first day, Julia was a bit worried that it might be too rough, but these worries were immediately dispelled on the second day when they saw Woodie jump on the chair next to Leo and lovingly start washing him. Since then, they have been best friends.

Young adult

Woodie and Leo are both playful, but Leo can really always play and is also much more curious than Woodie. What Julia finds so amazing about Woodie is that he is so mature. To this day, he has never pulled a naughty trick.

Both cats give Julia a calm feeling, and also that she lives in the now. Julia enjoys the little things in life even more and realizes how important it is to have company around you. A nice bonus, in winter Julia has the sweetest leg warmers! Including real hair, because that's inevitable with two long-haired cats. The same goes for strangers, Leo is always so used to new people and easily wraps around your leg so you can pet his belly. Woodie, on the other hand, is a bit more distant towards new people, but loves to sit on Julia's lap all the more.

Every week we search for interesting stories about cats and their owners. This week we spoke with Ashleigh from the Australian Gold Coast. Ashleigh and her fiancé have two long-haired cats. Despite the fact that this causes a lot of hair during the shedding season, one of the cats is FIV positive and not completely house-trained, she wouldn't want it any other way.
