Has your cat scratched the carpet for the umpteenth time? One day it hangs its claws in the couch, the next day in the curtains. It's not fun, but punishing your cat won't change anything. Scratching is simply a natural instinct for your cat, no matter how annoying you find it. Fortunately, by purchasing a cat tree, you can prevent a lot of that scratching on the furniture.

Born hunter

There are several reasons why a cat likes to scratch. For example, they do this to sharpen their claws, just like we like to get a manicure. When scratching, the outer, damaged layer of the claw comes off. The new, sharper layer underneath is exposed. So by scratching, that top layer falls off, giving them a new, beautiful, but above all sharp claw. Sharpening the claws helps them climb better. The cat is and remains a true hunter; their claws are their most important weapon.

Not in my territory

Cats also scratch to show that they are the boss in the house. Their claws contain scent glands that release a certain scent during scratching. Humans do not smell it, but other cats immediately know who the boss is in the house because of the scent.

Even if your cat comes to lie on your lap and starts scratching or kneading with her paws, she does this to release a scent. It may seem very cute, but often they do this again to mark their territory. In short, actually your cat is the boss in the house, not the other way around.

Stretch

Cats also need relaxation from time to time. Again, scratching is perfect for that. While scratching, cats stretch their entire body and muscles, which is not only good for the body's flexibility but also for their mind. They will be able to move faster (here come the zoomies) and also react more quickly to unexpected situations. In this way, they are better able to catch prey. A cat tree would therefore be very useful for your cat to fully express itself.

Be there on time

A cat tree is not only useful for large or adult cats, kittens also benefit from it. A kitten needs to be able to scratch and climb enough during its development to train its balance and reflexes. So don't wait too long, or your kitten will soon be hanging on the furniture!

How do you solve it now?

A cat tree is really a good idea if you are tired of constantly punishing your cat for something it really needs. Scratching is a form of communication, an expression of an emotion. More than usual, in fact!

Every cat tree is different, just like every cat. One cat is a fan of our Kilimandjaro, while another prefers our Chartreux. There are several factors to consider before purchasing a cat tree. The breed, the length of your cat, the condition, … So think carefully before impulsively ordering one! One cat likes to scratch horizontally, another vertically. A long cat needs a tall, large post to fully stretch, while that is not the case for small breeds.

So observe your cat before you proceed with the order. This way, both of you will be satisfied with the purchase! Are you curious about our collection of Cat trees? Check them out here!
