Cats see love differently

Cats are not dogs. They do not wag their tails as soon as you come home. But that does not mean they feel nothing.
Cat love often looks like this:

  • trust (“with you I am safe”)
  • connection (“I choose you”)
  • calm (“with you I can relax”)

So even if your cat is not cuddly, that does not necessarily mean something negative.

7 signs that your cat truly loves you

1) He blinks slowly at you
A slow blink is actually a cat’s kiss. It means: “I trust you.” In the wild, cats must always be alert. So when your cat blinks slowly at you, he shows that he feels safe enough with you to relax for a moment. Tip: blink slowly back. There’s a good chance he will blink back at you.

2) You get head butts
That’s not just cute: your cat is also leaving his scent. So yes… your cat is “claiming” you a little (in the sweetest way).

3) He stays near you
Not necessarily on your lap, but in the same room. On the couch, on the chair next to you, or just relaxed on the floor. That is typical cat love: wanting to be near, without fuss.

4) He takes your spot on the couch
Cats don’t do that just like that: your scent reassures him and gives him a safe feeling.

5) He shows you his belly
It’s not automatically an invitation to pet. So don’t fall for that! But it does mean: “I feel so safe with you that I dare to show my most vulnerable spot.”

6) He brings you gifts
Toys, socks, or in the worst case… something from the garden. Usually your cat means well: he wants to share his “catch” with you. Strange as it may seem: he sees you as family and wants to care for you too.

7) He purrs or kneads
Purring + kneading with paws = pure relaxation. Your cat links you to calm, comfort, and safety, and that says it all.

But why does he sometimes ignore you then?

Cats do not feel the need to please people.
And sometimes it is also a combination of:
• overstimulation
• strain
• too little routine
• too few quiet safe spots
💡 Tip: give your cat several quiet places in the house. The more control and calm, the more your cat will flourish.

Your cat can indeed love you

So: yes, your cat can truly love you, albeit in its own way. If it seeks your spot, gives head butts, blinks slowly, or calms down near you, that is no coincidence. That is trust, and a cat does not show that to just anyone.

Does your cat love you?
