Every week we search for interesting stories about cats and their owners. This week we spoke with Lisanne, from the cozy city of Nijmegen. Lisanne is devoted to the British Shorthair breed. Her parents have had their own cattery since she was 4 years old, so you could say that the love for cats runs in her blood. Since 2021, Lisanne has had her own cattery, where she recently had her first litter!

From a young age

At Lisanne's home, you don't only see British Shorthairs; she also took in two Ragdolls through a rehoming website. The two Ragdolls, Mikey and Tyson, are brothers and share a special bond; they are a true duo. Just like the other pair, the British Shorthairs Tony and Mango. Both were bred at her father's cattery, and of course, Lisanne visited there more than regularly when they were born to build a bond with the kittens before they came to live with her.

By now, Lisanne naturally knew more and more about the work that owning a cattery entails and how wonderful it can be to experience pregnancy and birth up close. That is why in 2021 she decided to realize her dream and also register as an official British Shorthair cattery Say My Name. Through this, she tries to contribute to the improvement of this beautiful breed by selectively breeding healthy, beautiful bloodlines. Meanwhile, she fully enjoys the kittens from the beginning until they leave.

The first litter

Time for beschuit met muisjes! Mango, the beautiful tricolor British Shorthair, had her first litter on July 7, '22! For Lisanne, this is the first litter within her own cattery. And what a litter! Such beautiful little faces... Well done, Mango! It wasn't easy, of course; Lisanne had to hand-feed the kittens during the first weeks to raise them. Because Mango had minimal milk production, this was not enough to feed all the kittens adequately. With a feeding schedule running 24/7, Lisanne was continuously busy with this.

The kittens grow up with Lisanne in the living room. This way, the kittens are well socialized and accustomed to all the household sounds and activities. Because they grow up among Lisanne's other pets, they become affectionate, curious, and above all, sweet British Shorthairs.

Leaving the nest

When the kittens are 13 weeks old, they may move to their new owners! That will be in the first week of October. Lisanne has a good connection with all the new owners, they are very involved and of course they are really looking forward to the arrival of their kittens!

Lisanne herself will not keep a kitten from this litter, but she hopes to keep a nice female cat from next year's litter. We will continue to follow Lisanne and her cattery, and we already wish all the kittens a happy new home with their new families!

A lot of time and love has been invested, but the kittens are doing great!
