In love with the breed

Although Julia and her boyfriend thought they were real dog people, because of the lifestyle and upkeep at the moment, they decided it was more suitable for them to get cats. And, they are surprised and amazed at how much they have already learned from their two cats Woodie and Leo. Both are Neva Masquerade breed cats, the point variety of the Siberian cat which has been fully recognised as an official breed since 2009. The Neva Masquerade has a light coat with dark coloured patches at the face and paws. In terms of appearance, they are otherwise very similar to the Siberian cat; long hair, a bushy tail and a muscular body. They are also very similar in terms of personality; they are intelligent, lively, curious, cheerful and affectionate. An ideal companion animal and this Julia can only agree ‘We feel the bond and love between us growing every day. What touches me most is that they also really show their love to us’ she tells.

Besties

Woodie and Leo come from different catteries, they are both a year old and their characters are made of gold. Although playing was rather rough at first, they are now best friends. Woodie was first at Julia's house, and when they went to pick him up he was not at all shy compared to his siblings. They were a lot calmer, which made Julia love Woodie even more. Leo arrived a few weeks later, he was so small and cute. Still a bit timid, but also very playful! So when they met, they immediately played a lot. On the first day, Julia was a little worried about whether things were getting too rough, but these were immediately dispelled the second day when they saw Woodie jump on Leo's chair and start washing him lovingly. They have been best friends ever since.

Young adult

Woodie and Leo are both playful, but Leo can really play all the time and is also a lot more curious than Woodie. What Julia finds so amazing about Woodie is that he is so mature. To this day, he has never pulled a naughty prank.

Both cats make Julia feel calm, and also that she is living in the now. Julia enjoys the little things in life even more and she realises how important company around you is. A nice touch, in winter Julia has the sweetest leg warmers! Including real hair, because that is insurmountable with two long-haired cats. Similarly with strangers, Leo is always so used to new people and easily wraps himself around your leg so you can pet him over his tummy. Woodie, on the other hand, is a bit more aloof towards new people, but prefers to sit on Julia's lap.

Every week we look for interesting stories from cats and their owners. This week, we spoke to Ashleigh from Australia's Gold Coast. Ashleigh and her fiancé have two long-haired cats. Even though that causes a lot of hair during the shedding period, one of the cats is FIV positive ánd not completely house-trained, she wouldn't have it any other way.
