The names Velar, Shelby, Niva, and Hummer undoubtedly make you think of cars, but they are also the cats of Cattery Spoetnik. Because Sharon and her husband are crazy about cars, they chose to name all their Maine Coons after cars. Velar is the 2-year-old stud cat, who is a huge cuddler. "When Velar has a mating, he is a true gentleman. He gives kisses, lots of kisses. We therefore call him Mr. Casanova," Sharon tells us about Velar.

But she also indicates that keeping a stud cat can sometimes be a challenge. The spraying, making a mess, and the smell he brings with him. "The downside is that he has to be separate from the rest, he has his own accommodation with a large outdoor run, and Velar can roam freely in the garden," Sharon explains.

Shelby is the true mother of the group, who likes to keep an overview from the top lounge spot of the Royalty cat tree. When Hummer and Niva play, Shelby watches from a higher point. Shelby has already brought several beautiful kittens into the world, and Sharon still keeps in touch with the new owners. “It is so nice to see how our babies are doing and how beautiful they are becoming,” Sharon says.

For Sharon, keeping a cattery is something special; the litters that are born give her so much energy and satisfaction. A little miracle that happens, Sharon calls it. Most cats withdraw when they are about to give birth, but Shelby waits until night and gives birth in Sharon's bed. She also prefers to place her kittens on Sharon's lap.

But what she will never forget was Shelby's first litter. Two of the four kittens were stillborn and were then buried in the garden under a Weeping Cat. "This tree has a lot of meaning for us," Sharon explains.

Niva and Hummer are the youngest companions, Niva is 11 months old and Hummer, the solid black Maine Coon, is now 5 months. From the very first moment, Sharon was in love with Niva, but at first, she was very scared. Meanwhile, they are best friends and Niva follows Sharon everywhere. Wherever Sharon goes, whatever she does; Niva is there. When Sharon goes to fold the laundry, when she cooks, when she puts on makeup... There you find Niva, she almost hands over the mascara.
