11 tips for driving safely with your cat!

  1. Mand
Place your cat in the basket during the ride. Don't do this hastily, but first let your cat get used to the basket. You can do this by letting them get accustomed to this strange object in the house. Open the lid and put a blanket inside. A treat or cookie can also make your cat more willing to crawl into the basket.
  2. Strap in
When we have children in the back seat, we always check ten times if they have their seatbelt on. So why wouldn't we do the same with our pets? It is not only dangerous for the cat but also for the passengers and the driver. A sudden meow or movement from the cat distracts the driver more than you think. So fasten the basket with your seatbelt. If you suddenly have to brake while driving, the basket stays safely in place.
  3. Vaccination
If you travel with your cat or go to the vet, it is likely that they will come into contact with another animal. So make sure to vaccinate your cat to prevent diseases.
  4. Do not let your cat sit on your lap!
This is not only dangerous but also illegal in many countries. So you really want to avoid this.
  5. Do not place your cat on the passenger seat
In an accident, the airbag turns off if it detects a certain weight on the passenger seat. This is not ideal if the airbag suddenly hits the cat. Therefore, place your cat in the back of the car (in a basket) on or next to the seat, so the airbags cannot deploy.
  6. Power supply
Bring enough food and water for your cat, especially if you are going on a long trip. It is also advisable to bring cat litter to prevent accidents on the road.
  7. Collar
Give your cat a collar with your phone number. This way people can call you if they suddenly find your cat somewhere. Not a fan of the collar? Of course, you can also have your cat microchipped in advance.
  8. First aid kit for pets
Not only you, but also your cat can get sick on the road. Therefore, buy medicines and/or bandages in advance. You will find them harder to get on the road. It's better to be safe than sorry.
  9. Veterinary check-ups
Are you going on vacation abroad? Look for veterinarians in the area where you will be staying. This way you can be sure to care for your furry friend if needed.
  10. Break
Take a break occasionally on the road, so not only you but also your pet can stretch their legs (or paws).
  11. Never leave your pet alone in the car!
This is perhaps one of the most important tips we can give you: don't leave your pet alone! Staying too long in a stationary car can lead to hypothermia or overheating of your pet.

Your cat will thank you later
