Is (outdoor) play healthy for a cat?
Playing is definitely good for your cat and it is an essential part of a happy and healthy cat. Why is this so?
- Playing reduces stress and pain
- Prevents boredom in your cat
- Strengthens the bond between humans and their furry friends
- Maintains a healthy weight
Everything starts with good food for your furry friend. High-quality food is important because that way you know exactly that your cat gets everything it needs. However, it is important that the food matches the behavior and life stage of your cat.
Besides food, your cat needs to be able to expend its energy and be physically and mentally stimulated. How can you ensure cats are stimulated? And with which toys can cats play?
- Cat wand
- Cat toys with catnip
- Cat fitness with a laser pointer
- Intelligence games and puzzles
- Running outside
Cats can definitely get sunburned and need to be well protected with sunscreen
Just like us humans, cats are sensitive to UV radiation. Certain body parts are exposed a lot and are therefore more vulnerable.
For cats, these are mainly the ears and the bridge of the nose. The fur is thinner there and blocks less radiation.
Cats love to lie on their backs and warm their bellies in the sun. Since the belly fur is not as dense as the back fur, the belly can also burn quickly.
During warm temperatures, make sure your cat stays calm and always has a shady spot to cool down. Think of, for example, a small pool, sprinklers, or a cardboard box in a cool place. Your furry friend won't be able to resist this, and this way he won't be in a draft. Cats don't like that, after all.
