Every week we search for interesting stories of cats and their owners. This week we ended up in the North East of England, with Simon and his wife Carol. They had long been looking for a Ragdoll kitten with a specific coat colour, but their search was not so simple.
Cat family
Simon and his wife felt the time was right to start a family, a cat family rather. They had both been following different breeders online for quite some time, looking for the perfect kitten. ‘A house full of cats is really for us!’ said Simon. Unfortunately, their search did not go according to plan...
We kept thinking about the one kitten we wanted to take at first
Too young
During their search, they found a kitten that seemed perfect for them. So that turned out not to be quite the case... ‘Unfortunately when it was almost time, we were told that we couldn't take the kitten home yet because she was still too small. We were so disappointed! We had been looking forward to giving the kitten a forever home for a long time,’ Simon says. Fortunately, they did not have to go home empty-handed. ‘Fortunately, the breeder had another kitten available, one of her sisters, who was also looking for a home. We decided to take her and named her Emiko. Still, we kept thinking about the other kitten. What would it be like if we had taken her?’
Playmate
After a while, Simon and Carol thought it would be a good
idea to find a playmate for Emiko. Believe it or not, the kitten they wanted to
take with them first was available again! "I regularly checked the
breeder's updates and one day I saw that the kitten was finally big enough. I
immediately sent him a message and luckily we got positive news! Now Emiko not
only has her sister in the house, but also a playmate forever.

Despite the fact that Emiko and Kiko are sisters, Simon and Carol thought it wise to let the two get acquainted quietly. ‘They had not seen each other for several months, so we chose to keep a close eye on them. Emiko was very shy, but at the same time a bit curious to meet her sister. Kiko was hugely curious and not at all scared. After a few blows and growls, they got along like sisters are supposed to get along,’ puts Simon.

Children and chaste women
Simon and Carol cannot imagine life without their two cats. ‘We really treat them as if they were our children,’ Simon says. ‘Emiko and Kiko even help us around the house! They keep our house clean as they are always chasing spiders and flies. Might sound a bit dirty, but it's convenient.’
Keeping an eye on the world
The two ragdolls also received a sturdy scratching post from
their owners, namely the Devon Rex.
"The Devon Rex has sturdy sisal poles and is ideal for our two cats as it
has a large bed with a thick and soft pillow, which they can easily cuddle up
on. The scratching post is in our living room, so that they can keep a close
eye on everything together."
