This week Anita Kelsey, a certified cat behavior therapist from the United Kingdom, explains the role cat furniture plays in a cat's life and the importance of a cat tree. In addition to being an author, Anita Kelsey is also a certified cat groomer and specializes in caring for aggressive or phobic cats. Anita writes for Your Cat Magazine and is part of their expert panel to answer readers' questions about cat care. She also advises on cat behavior for the magazine CFBA (Canine and Feline Behaviour). Anita is based in London but consults throughout the UK and internationally. She lives with her husband, a music producer, and two Norwegian Forest Cats, Kiki and Zaza.
Invaluable value
Cat trees play a very important role in a cat's life. They stimulate many important functions, which are invaluable for a cat's well-being. The climbing posts serve as a cat tree, allowing the cat not only to care for its claws and train the surrounding muscles, but also to leave its scent. Climbing enables a cat to get exercise and is the closest thing to climbing a tree (a natural daily activity for an outdoor cat) and allows the cat to feel safe in a high place, away from people or dogs, and looking down on its territory. The cat tree is a piece of furniture that belongs only to cats, and I would encourage every cat caretaker to consider placing one.

Different Cat trees suit different personalities. Large breeds need large platforms to lie on, and most do not fit in the compartments unless the information on the cat tree states that it is suitable for large breeds.
Cohabitation
I know that some people think that Cat trees are ugly, but a true cohabitation must care for both the human and the cat. There are plenty of companies that provide beautiful luxury cat climbers, and you can find a huge range of designs at one of my favorite brands; RHRQuality.
The type of cat tree you buy depends on the space you have, but also on the personality and breed of your cat. Try to be generous with your space and think outside the box if space is limited. Clear up to make room for new ideas.
Something for everyone
Make sure the climber you choose has a platform that suits your cat. Many platforms are too small or not strong enough for your cat's weight. This is also why the brand RHRQuality stands out above most others. The company has made it its life's work to design climbers suitable for larger cat breeds, the Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest, Siberians, British Short Hair, and Ragdolls. This ensures their bodies can relax and stretch on the platforms and that the base of the climbers is super strong. Moreover, they have great large structures to play and stimulate, perfect for homes with more space.
Make your cat(s) very happy and be creative with the space you both share. There is a climber for every situation.
