Every week we look for interesting stories about cats and their owners. This time we ended up with Elise from Baarn, The Netherlands (NL). At Elise's home, it is very cozy together with her cat and dog.

Bringing a cat and dog together can be exciting, especially when one of them is no longer a kitten or puppy like with Elise. Despite the big age difference, they have become friends within a few weeks of getting used to each other.

"Living like cat and dog" - but then in good harmony!

The well-known saying "living like cat and dog," that cats and dogs are sworn enemies, is fortunately not the case with Elise. Her
cat and dog live together in good harmony under one roof. That makes us happy! And also a little curious about how she managed this...

Elise's cat is named Harry, a 16-year-old British Shorthair. She now also has a Pomeranian of 1.5 years old named Marie, but they also call her Marietje.

I found it very exciting when our little dog arrived, because Harry was of course startled by our furry little puppy

A place of one's own

"Elise read up well in advance and searched for and applied tips from the internet. The most important thing is that they could get used to each other calmly at their own pace."

"We gave our cat Harry extra attention during this time. I thought it was important that the cat kept his own spot where the dog did not come."

That is exactly what the cat tree Cat Paradise is ideal for, here Harry could retreat to different spots whenever he wanted. Especially in the high lounge bed or in one of the hammocks, because Marietje obviously can't reach here.

Sneaky kisses

Harry and Marie often receive treats at the same time and side by side, to encourage a mutual bond. Despite the large age difference and character, they were fully accustomed to each other within a few weeks. According to Elise, this is partly because neither of them has had bad experiences with the other species. They respect each other and each other's space. Sometimes one of the two withdraws, but often they seek each other out.

I even catch them sometimes at a moment when they are nose to nose and give each other a little kiss.
