Every week, we look for interesting stories from cats and their owners. This week we spoke to Trish, from Utah. She lives there with her partner and her two furry friends Ovie J and Dex. Sadly, her previous four-legged friend died in 2020. ‘It broke our hearts to say goodbye to Slim. Luckily, there are these two to ease the grief,’ Trish said.
Unconditional love
Trish grew up with cats. ‘My cats are everything to me, they are my world. If I'm having a good day, they make it even better. Or if I'm having a bad day, they put a smile on my face. When I hug them, it seems like all I can do is forget all my worries for a moment. Their love is unconditional,’ Trish says. ‘It seems like I always have a buddy around. They are basically my two shadows. No matter what I do or where I am, they are around anyway.’
Patience
Her cats may be her everything, but it is not always as easy as it seems. ‘My cats are quite picky about what they want to eat, so that's already not so simple. They are also real fluff balls, our house is full of their hair. To be honest, you really have to put some time into them,’ says Trish. Not that she would have it any other way. ‘Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine life without them. I enjoy taking care of them. I also just love staying home for them, because once I'm away, I miss them.’
Dog Ways
The two Ragdolls also have special ways, some would even dare to call it dog behaviour. ‘Ovie can fetch! Not always, he remains a cat, of course. He chooses when he feels like it, but still.... They can also really lie on their backs for hours, waiting for me to come and rub their tummies. Not many cats like that.’
My husband and I also want a hammock, but one in our size.
Cat room and more
Ovie and Dex have everything they want, they can fully enjoy their lives with Trish. Not only do they have their own cat room, they also have six scratching posts! ‘We bought them the scratching posts Devon Rex, Cat Penthouse, Corner Coon, Maine Coon Lounge, Maine Coon Tower and scratching barrel Coony 80,’ says Trish. ‘Three are in their cat room so they can play there. The other three are in our bedroom. We were so looking forward to seeing the scratching posts in real life, especially the hammocks. My husband and I are even a little jealous! We want one too, but one in our size of course,’ Trish says with a smile.
You would think they would lie somewhere different every day, but that is usually not the case. Ovie and Dex both have their favourite spots. ‘Ovie is a real fan of the hammocks, so he will usually find you in those. If he is not in there, he is probably sleeping somewhere on the Devon Rex. Then again, Dex is a fan of the Corner Coon per se, he probably lies there.’
