Father's Day is coming up soon. Whether you celebrate it with your family or just let it be, cats always have their own perspective. And if there's someone who secretly has a soft spot for that grumpy man on the couch who said "that cat isn't mine," it's your cat. In this blog, we dive into the special bond between cats and fathers. Because how does it really work? Do cats really choose their favorite human? And why is it always that one person who wasn't really a cat person?

He really didn't want a cat…

It's a classic story. When the cat arrived, he sounded determined: "That cat is yours, I don't want anything to do with it." But a few weeks later, cat videos are being sent via WhatsApp, his lap has become the cat's regular spot, and we hear him talking out loud to "his little buddy."

You hear this kind of story surprisingly often, and that's not without reason. Cats often feel attracted to people who don't immediately claim them. While women tend to interact with cats more spontaneously and nurturingly (lots of talking, endless cuddling), men are often a bit more reserved and calm in their approach. And it is precisely such distance that makes cats feel just a little safer.

Why cats love calm types

Cats are emotional animals, but in a subtle way. They respond strongly to body language and energy. According to research, cats feel safest with people who radiate a calm and predictable energy. And those just happen to be the traits we often see in fathers.

Moreover, cats choose their favorite person not only based on who feeds them, but on who they instinctively feel comfortable with. A quiet presence, the lack of sudden movements, the patience, it all works in their favor. Your father may not be a cat whisperer, but he is the one the cat feels comfortable with when the rest of the house is chaos.

The quiet bond between cat and father

Little is said about it, but it is there: the quiet love between cat and father. You see it in the little things. The cat that jumps next to him on the couch while he watches football. Every evening the same ritual: the cat lies in its spot, he sighs, grabs a blanket, and just sits down next to it.

He doesn't say anything, but does he push the food bowl aside so the cat can reach its food better? Then you know enough.

Father's Day gifts – approved by cat and Cat Dad

He may not necessarily need to be put in the spotlight, but it is nice to let him know that he is a true cat dad. With these gifts, he probably won't say anything, but you can tell from everything that he secretly appreciates it.

  • A playhouse for the cat: For cats that climb everywhere, but always end up on his work shoes. This
playhouse fits nicely in the corner, matches well with the interior, and keeps the cat
    pleasantly occupied.
Or just give him a moment of recognition

He doesn't brag about it, but you know very well how crazy he is about the cat.

Give him something simple: his favorite snack, a mug with ‘Cat Dad’ on it, or send an old video of him and the cat together!

Father's Day is about recognition, and who knows, your father might see a bit of himself in this story. Maybe he thinks it's all nonsense until he catches himself googling “best cat food for sensitive stomachs.”

And then you know for sure: he is a true Cat Dad
