Every week we look for interesting stories about cats and their owners. This time we ended up in Germany. Can you imagine how annoying (sorry) it must be to have a partner who is allergic to cats? Sabine can! She and her children dreamed of having a cat in the house, but that didn't really seem like an option for them. "We tried a shelter cat, but unfortunately we had to return it after three days because my husband had a severe allergic reaction."

Hypoallergenic cats

About 14% of cat owners are allergic to cats. Of these, 9 out of 10 are allergic to the Fel D1 protein. This protein is found in cat saliva, urine, and tears. People with a cat allergy often suffer from sneezing attacks, watery eyes, and sometimes difficulty breathing.

Fortunately, there are cat breeds considered hypoallergenic, which means they are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction because they produce fewer allergens. In fact, it is the allergens that are the culprit, as they cause the allergic reaction.

X nest

Sabine and her children had always dreamed of having cats in the house, but that turned out not to be so easy. They adopted a European Shorthair cat, but unfortunately it was not a success. Sabine's partner suffered from a severe allergic reaction.

Fortunately, Sabine didn't have to put her love for cats on ice because of her partner's allergies. She discovered that allergy-friendly cats exist. "I met a breeder on the internet who explained everything to me in detail and assured me that it works in 90% of cases," Sabine says.

That's how they met Xan, a Siberian cat. He was only eight weeks old when Sabine met him for the first time and immediately fell in love with him. "Finally a new baby who even sleeps in my arms!", says Sabine. However, she was not the one who chose the name, but the breeder. "The breeder gave all her litters different names. Xan came from litter X. We thought it was a beautiful name, so we decided to keep it."

D nest

A few months later, their second kitten was born. “Dandy is our second new family member,” says Sabine. They now have two Siberian cats, one golden and one silver. Fortunately, her husband is not allergic to them!

There isn't a tower high enough

"We have four Cat trees, two of which are from RHR Pets. We love the quality and since our cats both weigh 6kg, they definitely need a stable cat tree. They also need plenty of space to sleep and cuddle," says Sabine.

We are more than sure that Xan and Dandy will have a great time on our Cat trees.

"Xan is obsessed with the Devon Rex. His old cat tree was actually too small for him, every time he fell asleep on it, he would fall down. Now he has a lot of space!"
