For many cat owners, September feels like a fresh start. But did you know it’s also Happy Healthy Cat Month? A whole month dedicated to your cat’s health and wellbeing. And let’s be honest: when you dive back into the chaos of daily life, your cat feels it too. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do to keep them healthy, happy, and relaxed.
Time for a fresh start?
1. Schedule extensive eating and playing times
Cats thrive on predictability. Especially now that your rhythm is changing again, a familiar day gives them peace.
- Give food always around the same time (yes, also on the weekend 😉).
- Plan a daily playtime, no matter how short it is.
- Are you busy for a moment? Prepare a feeding puzzle so your cat is entertained even when you are away.
2. Make sure your cat keeps moving
Autumn is coming, so that can mean your cat spends more time indoors. Unfortunately, that can quickly become boring for many cats.
- Alternate toys, so it stays exciting.
- Place a cardboard box or paper bag: cheap, but guaranteed success.
- Consider a climbing wall set or extra cat tree to keep it adventurous for your cat..
3. A health check
Happy Healthy Cat Month is the moment to check if your cat is completely fit.
- Check his eyes, teeth, and coat.
- Keep an eye on his weight.
- Are you unsure about something? Then schedule a check-up with the veterinarian.
"I thought my cat would manage... until I noticed how restless he became as soon as I resumed my old work routine."
4. Challenge your cat mentally
After the holiday, you need to get your brain going again and your cat? He could also use some challenge.
- Make your own DIY toy.
- Hide treats in the house and let him “hunt”.
- If you have some time (and patience) you can teach your cat a simple trick.
Are you teaching your cat something new this month?

A cat on a leash? For many, it sounds like pure horror. Yet you might secretly be curious and would actually like it, provided your cat gets used to it and you don't mind the staring looks. On social media, you see it more and more: cats going on adventures with their owner wearing a harness.
But how difficult is it actually to get your cat used to such a harness? And who knows... maybe you'll secretly really enjoy walking with your cat. In this blog, you'll find out if it's something for you and your cat, and we'll dive into the pros and cons. And most importantly: how do you go about it?
5. Include your cat in your routine
New month = new habits. Just include your cat in that.
- Play 5 minutes before you go to work, that way he also starts his day well.
- Plan a cuddle moment after dinner.
- Do you work from home? Take your coffee break for a few minutes of playtime with your cat. This way your routine also becomes his, and you both enjoy it together.
Understanding, movement and a little extra attention: that is what this month is all about. With some adjustments here and there in your day, you already ensure that your cat feels relaxed and content, especially now that you are back in the work flow.
Are you both still a bit searching for routine together?
How is that with you? Let us know in the comments, we are curious!
