Loki and Jak
‘We have two rescues, Blue and Bertie, but Loki was our first Maine Coon. After Loki came Wade, another Maine Coon,’ Helen says. ‘Our third Maine Coon, Yondu, joined us in November.’
Loki even shares some similarities with her child, Jak. ‘My son Jak really wanted a ginger friend like that, so we bought him for his 7th birthday. They have such a special bond.’ Loki always waits for 13-year-old Jak after school. ‘Every time Jak comes home, Loki goes to him and rubs his face on Jak's hand. Then Jak says ‘come on, my little fluff, are you coming up?’ and Loki hops up behind him.’
My son wanted a redheaded friend just like him
Helen told us the joy he has brought Jak is immense. ‘When Jak's bedroom door is closed, Loki screams and bangs on the door to be let in. When he is inside, you can hear him purring as you walk up the stairs.’
Cheeky
‘Loki always makes us smile, but sometimes that progresses to gnashing of teeth,’ says Helen. ‘He swipes things off your tabletop while looking at you, he has broken many glasses. He loots the bags when you're unpacking groceries and has run off with steak and packets of ham in the past. He can open cupboards and drawers, so you often find that he has helped himself to a snack. We had to replace the tap in our old kitchen because I kept coming in from work and the water was running and he would look at it and play with it.
Your own space
Loki, Wade, Blue and Bertie get to hang out on the Corner Coon, which fits five cats perfectly. With two hammocks and multiple lying spots, they all find a place to sleep. ‘Wade likes to lie on top, Bertie in turn is obsessed with the hammocks,’ says Helen. So are we!
