Every week we search for interesting stories about cats and their owners. This week we spoke with Ashleigh from the Australian Gold Coast. Ashleigh and her fiancé have two long-haired cats. Despite the fact that this causes a lot of hair during the shedding season, one of the cats is FIV positive and not completely house-trained, she wouldn't want it any other way.
Adopted cat
Fonzy had been available for adoption for a long time at the Australian Animal Welfare League, and because he is FIV positive, no one wanted to adopt him. However, Ashleigh couldn't ignore how handsome he is and decided to adopt him. Because Fonzy was also quite overweight, Ashleigh put him on a diet so he could live as healthily as possible.
Fonzy is now already 10 years old, but he never really learned what going to the litter box means. At least, he does go there, but then he poops right next to it. Of course, Ashleigh still loves him very much! And although Fonzy is not very fond of cuddling, he rarely comes upstairs to Ashleigh and her fiancé's bed to lie exactly between them and purr.

Freddie Mercury
Because one cat was clearly not enough for the couple, they decided to get another cat. At a Cattery, there were still a number of red tomcats left, so Ashleigh couldn't resist sending a message. They got a Maine Coon and named him Freddie, after Freddie Mercury because they are huge fans of Queen!
Since then, Freddie has also been the absolute king of the house, ruling it as if it were his castle. And that is how they are both treated at Ashleigh's home. In the living room, you will find the Maine Coon Lounge standing between the sofas, so the cats are comfortably involved in the seating area.

In addition, Fonzy and Freddie also have their own playroom, where the Maine Coon Tower is placed near the window to give them the best view while they lie in the top hammocks. And the Devon Rex is also there, which is Freddie's favorite hiding spot! Fonzy prefers to be in the living room.
Best company
It is Ashleigh's dream to one day adopt another cat. The constant companionship of her cats is the biggest advantage, making all the disadvantages fade away. "Of course, it's not fun to clean up the waste, or the huge amounts of hair when they are shedding," Ashleigh says, "but I already get happy just looking at them, for example how Freddie is curled up sleeping, and Fonzy still with his tongue sticking out from cleaning," she continues. And although they don't always want to be touched, they will always be in the same room as Ashleigh and her fiancé. And if Freddie does want to be touched? Then he stands like a human with his front paws stretched up so you can pick him up under his armpits!
Fonzy and Freddie are like our first children, they always come first!

The Three Musketeers
Every week we search for interesting stories about cats and their owners. Just last week we spoke with Belinda from Australia, this week we are looking much closer to home. To be exact, right across from the undersigned! Because there are many animal lovers with cats within the RHR team, this week I am having a conversation with my colleague Mitchell.
